Statistical parametric speech synthesis with a novel codebook-based excitation model

چکیده
Speech synthesis is an important modality in Cognitive Infocommunications, which is the intersection of informatics and cognitive sciences. Statistical parametric methods have gained importance in speech synthesis recently. The speech signal is decomposed to parameters and later restored from them. The decomposition is implemented by speech coders. We apply a novel codebook-based speech coding method to model the excitation of speech. In the analysis stage the speech signal is analyzed frame-by-frame and a codebook of pitch synchronous excitations is built from the voiced parts. Timing, gain and harmonic-tonoise ratio parameters are extracted and fed into the machine learning stage of Hidden Markov-model based speech synthesis. During the synthesis stage the codebook is searched for a suitable element in each voiced frame and these are concatenated to create the excitation signal, from which the final synthesized speech is created. Our initial experiments show that the model fits well in the statistical parametric speech synthesis framework and in most cases it can synthesize speech in a better quality than the traditional pulse-noise excitation. A novel irregular voice model for HMM-based speech synthesis
State-of-the-art text-to-speech (TTS) synthesis is often based on statistical parametric methods. Particular attention is paid to hidden Markov model (HMM) based text-to-speech synthesis. HMM-TTS is optimized for ideal voices and may not produce high quality synthesized speech with voices having frequent non-ideal phonation. Such a voice quality is irregular phonation (also called as glottaliza...

This paper describes a novel framework for statistical parametric speech synthesis in which statistical modeling of the speech waveform is performed through the joint estimation of acoustic and excitation model parameters. The proposed method combines extraction of spectral parameters, considered as hidden variables, and excitation signal modeling in a fashion similar to factor analyzed traject...
متن کاملSpeech synthesis using warped linear prediction and neural networks
A text-to-speech synthesis technique, based on warped linear prediction (WLP) and neural networks, is presented for high-quality individual sounding synthetic speech. Warped linear prediction is used as a speech production model with wide audio bandwidth yet with highly compressed control parameter data. An excitation codebook, inverse filtered from a target speaker’s voice, is applied to obtai...

متن کاملReducing Mismatch in Training of DNN-Based Glottal Excitation Models in a Statistical Parametric Text-to-Speech System
Neural network-based models that generate glottal excitation waveforms from acoustic features have been found to give improved quality in statistical parametric speech synthesis. Until now, however, these models have been trained separately from the acoustic model. This creates mismatch between training and synthesis, as the synthesized acoustic features used for the excitation model input diff...
